Pahranagat Visitor Center Road
Pahranagat Visitor Center Road is a short (0.5 miles), paved road that provides access from Highway 93 to the Pahranagat Visitor Center, trailheads, the refuge maintenance area, staff housing, and the start of Alamo Road (access to Desert NWR).
After exiting the high-speed highway, the slow winding nature of this road, with marshes and tall trees pressing towards the pavement, makes a nice respite from one's travels.
Getting to the Road
Pahranagat Visitor Center Road is located about 1-1/4 hours northeast of Las Vegas. From Las Vegas, drive north on Interstate 15 to Highway 93. Turn left onto Highway 93 and drive north for 66.3 miles to Pahranagat Visitor Center Road, on the left. Watch for signs along Highway 93 announcing the road. |

The Road
Pahranagat Visitor Center Road branches off from Highway 93 and quickly passes a "Welcome to Pahranagat NWR" entrance sign. The road continues southwest before bending right and winding between marshy lands and tall cottonwood trees (about 0.2 miles out).
Approaching a rocky hillside, the road bends left onto the old entrance road and runs straight for another 0.2 miles to a three-way fork. The paved left fork turns into the Visitor Center parking lot. The right fork is Alamo Road, a long and adventuresome road, and the middle fork runs into the refuge maintenance area.
The left fork turns into a parking area loop. The first parking stalls are suitable for trailers and other large vehicles. Looping around to the left adjacent to the Visitor Center building, the road first passes accessible parking stalls and then enters the general parking area. The road ends here. |
