General: Sulphur-flower Buckwheat (Eriogonum umbellatum var versicolor) is a low-growing, perennial forb. The leaves are oblong, somewhat pointed, and hairy. The flower buds are red, and the open flowers are yellow.

Sulphur-flower Buckwheat is an uncommon component of the desert vegetation communities in montane habitats in the Yellow Pine (Transition), Pine-Fir (Canadian), and Bristlecone (Hudsonian) life zones. Look for this species up on Mt. Charleston.
