General Description: White-headed Woodpeckers (Picoides albolarvatus) are medium-sized black woodpeckers with a white head and white patches in the wings. Males have a bit of red on the back of the head.
Taxonomy: Piciformes, Picidae, Picinae.
Where to Find: Don't look for White-headed Woodpeckers around Las Vegas; rather, look for them primarily in the coniferous forests of Sierra and Cascade mountains from southern British Columbia to southern California. |
