General Description: Brown-headed Nuthatches (Sitta pusilla) are small birds with a dark, blue-gray back, a white front, a brown cap, and a white spot on the back of the head. The bill is long, straight, and heavy for such a small bird. This species is similar in appearance to the Pygmy Nuthatch found around Las Vegas.
Taxonomy: Passeriformes, Sittidae, Sittinae.
Where to Find: Don't look for Brown-headed Nuthatches around Las Vegas. Rather, look for them in pine forests the southeastern US |
