Virginia's Warbler (Vermivora virginiae)

General Description: Virginia's Warblers (Oreothlypis virginiae) are tiny, sexually similar songbirds. Both genders are gray overall with a bold white eyering and yellow on the breast, rump, and undertail coverts. Males also have a red patch on the top of the head.

Taxonomy: Passeriformes, Parulidae. Formerly Vermivora virginiae.

Favored Habitat: Mountain habitats with trees and brushy thickets.

Male Virginia's Warbler have a red cap

Where to Find: Expect to see these warblers everywhere around Las Vegas during migration. After migration, look for them on their breeding grounds in the mountains around Las Vegas in places such as Mt. Charleston (e.g., Fletcher Canyon, Bonanza Trail) and the Desert National Wildlife Range (Hidden Forest).
