General Description: Indigo Buntings (Passerina cyanea) are small, sexually dimorphic finches. Males are dark blue overall with a little black on the wings, and females are light brown with light wingbars and a little streaking on the breast.
Taxonomy: Passeriformes, Cardinalidae.
Favored Habitat: Brushy habitats east of the Rocky Mountains.
Where to Find: These are eastern birds; don't look for them around Las Vegas. However, they show up occasionally, so always keep an eye out for them.
