California Mantid (Stagmomantis californica)

General: The Order Mantodea includes nine families of mantids. Mantids are also called "praying mantises" because they typically lay in wait holding their forelegs as if praying for a meal. When an insect comes within reach, they extremely quickly reach out and grab it.

Native desert mantids are small and brown or tan, while non-native species tend to be big and green.
