Coastal Whiptail (Aspidoscelis tigris multiscutatus)

General Description: Coastal Whiptails (Aspidoscelis tigris stejnegeri) are a subspecies of the widespread Western Whiptail, differing from other subspecies by the spots on the sides (not bars) and the light throat with dark spots. Note also the fishnet pattern on the legs.

Taxonomy: Whiptail Lizard Family (Teiidae). Sometimes referred to as Aspidoscelis tigris multiscutatus. Formerly Western Whiptail.

Range: This subspecies occurs in southern California south into Baja California. This specimen was photographed at Palmdale, CA.
